Herakleion comes from New Orleans, a city known
for loud guitars, rowdy crowds and bands that treat every show like a street
fight. The trio was formed in 2020 when drummer Speed
Wilson crossed paths with guitarist and vocalist Apollo Xydias. Bassist Christian
Woerner entered the story the following year and the line up locked into
place. The band takes cues from Morbid Angel,
Pestilence and Voïvod,
then smashes everything together into a harsh, fast and restless attack.
They
started gaining traction with their debut EP “Curse Of Eternity” in 2022, mixed
and mastered by Duane Simoneaux. That opened
the door for plenty of live activity across the Southeast. Tours with Goatwhore, Skeletal
Remains and Exhorder kept the band
busy, then last Fall they continued the push with the “Necroverse” EP. Herakleion has been working nonstop and has built
a reputation for shows that leave a mark.
The result
is loud, hot blooded and full of motion. The songs move at a quicker pace than
the studio versions and the band sounds locked in after weeks on the road. Apollo’s guitar work cuts through the mix with a
nasty edge, while the vocals punch through every section with the same force
the band brings onstage. Speed’s drums stay
aggressive from start to finish and Woerner’s
bass gives the whole thing a strong driving push.
This is not
a glossy product. It is sweat, noise and confidence in front of a crowd. The
band stays tight through the entire performance and plays with the attitude of
a band that has been sharpening itself night after night. The audience noise
and room sound add to the personality of the release, giving listeners a sense
of being inside the show without turning the experience into a messy blur.
Everything stays loud and lively without slipping into chaos.
It is not a perfect live release, although perfection is not the goal. Some moments are rough, some transitions are sharp, and the soundboard capture keeps everything exposed. These small bumps add character rather than harm. They show a band that trusts itself enough to be real. “Live Through Eternity” succeeds because Herakleion commits fully to the moment. No tricks, no safety nets, just a group blasting through its set with fire in its teeth. With more shows coming up with Calavera, Obituary and Acid Bath, this release arrives at the right time to mark their progress and push them further.
Score: 7.5
