Drowned In Silver | Mothers | Pagan Records

Release Date: 7 November 2025
Format: CD/LP/Digital
Genre: Occult Doom Metal
Country: Poland

Drowned In Silver emerged from musicians already known in black metal and experimental circles. Instead of following their past paths, they built a project focused on trance driven occult rock. Their influences come from spiritual and ritualistic traditions, especially the atmospheric pull of The Devil’s Blood, the ceremonial darkness of Dead Can Dance and the folk mysticism of Wardruna. The band’s work leans toward long compositions, hypnotic rhythms and vocals that function as both narrative and incantation. For their debut album they also collaborated with visual artists and dancers, expanding the project into a broader artistic expression.

“Mothers” arrives as a debut with a clear direction. “Drowned In Silver” create long, meditative songs shaped by slow building progressions, steady percussion and layers of guitar that move between shadowed chords and brighter surges. The saxophone and duclar add an unusual voice, giving the album an air of old ceremony mixed with modern doom rock. The band pulls from various corners of dark atmospheric music and the result is an album that unfolds like a half remembered dream.

The vocals guide the listener through this landscape with an almost storytelling quality. They shift between calm spoken lines, trance chants and sorrowed melodic passages. The addition of Emil Gruca’s vocals strengthens these moments, turning some sections into something close to a ritual choir. The production allows all elements to breathe in a steady and grounded way, supporting the long running structures without turning them into chaos.

Each track stretches forward with patience. The guitars repeat slow phrases that create a circular effect, the bass anchors everything from below and the drums keep the pulse steady. The saxophone sometimes cuts through with mournful, droning tones that lift the songs into a more psychedelic zone. The band’s use of rattles and hand percussion adds to the atmosphere, giving the music an earthy texture.

The themes of “Mothers” touch on grief, spirituality and the transformation of identity. The lyrics move between personal imagery and mythic symbolism, often circling around cycles of death and rebirth. As a debut, “Mothers” shows a band that knows its direction. The album offers a deep dive into occult doom metal with a trance like approach and a strong sense of atmosphere. Listeners who enjoy The Devil’s Blood, Dead Can Dance or Wardruna will feel at home in this sound. “Drowned In Silver” manage to craft a work that invites the listener into a dark and patient universe, built on repetition, voice and ritualistic tones.

Tenebris | Kochanowski | Pagan Records

Release Date: 7 November 2025
Format: LP/CD
Genre: Progressive Metal
Country: Poland

Formed in Łódź in 1991, Tenebris has spent over three decades carving their place in Polish metal. Originally a death metal outfit, their music has evolved through progressive and jazz influences while retaining a distinct voice. Their catalog includes “The Odious Progress”, “Only Fearless Dreams”, “Catafalque-Comet”, “Melting”, “Diib”, “Alpha Orionis”, “Legendarna”, and “30 Years Of Solitude”. Known for exploring literary themes and integrating national cultural elements, Tenebris has remained a cult favorite in Poland and beyond.

“Kochanowski” carries the weight of years of thought and evolution. Tenebris anchors this album firmly in Polish literary tradition, pulling lines from Jan Kochanowski, Juliusz Słowacki, Adam Mickiewicz, and Olga Jackowska. The lyrics are dense with historical and poetic references, giving the album a unique identity that sets it apart from standard metal releases.

The sound balances aggression with a cerebral edge. Guitar lines often clash and intertwine, drums drive the songs forward with precision, and the occasional clarinet and guest vocals add unexpected color. There’s a careful pacing that allows each idea space to develop, with songs like “Popiel” and “Perunowy” drawing on older works to create something immersive, while “Szmaragdowy Somnabulik” benefits from subtle, almost jazzy textures.

Vocals shift between growls, chants, and melodic passages, giving the album a layered character. The production keeps the different elements clear without flattening the dynamic range, and the interplay between the core lineup and guest musicians brings moments of variety. Some sections feel dense, demanding attention, and the literary weight of the material sometimes overwhelms the musical flow. Still, there’s a commitment to crafting each song carefully, and the album presents a coherent, thoughtful statement.

“Kochanowski” is not immediately catchy, it’s deliberate, with ideas that unfold gradually and require repeated listens to fully appreciate. For listeners interested in a Polish metal band that blends literature, history, and diverse musical textures, it’s a compelling listen, though it may test patience at times.

Narrenwind | Gorzkie Plony | Pagan Records

Release Date: September 2025
Format: CD, LP, Digital
Genre: Black Metal / Blackened Heavy Metal
Country: Poland

Narrenwind has been around for more than a decade, building their name on a sound that bridges the rawness of black metal with the epic weight of heavy metal riffing. Formed by Ævil (guitar, bass) and Klimørh (vocals), the duo has carved out a niche in the Polish underground featuring albums that combine ferocity and atmosphere. After releasing their last two records through Ævil’s Wheelwright Productions, they now return to Pagan Records, the label that supported their early days. “Gorzkie Plony” is their fifth full-length, featuring session drums from Anti-Christian (known from Tsjuder and Beaten To Death), mixed and mastered by Haldor Grunberg at Satanic Audio, and wrapped in the artwork of JRMR.

The eight tracks on “Gorzkie Plony” run just over half an hour, keeping the writing sharp and to the point. The band’s blend of styles is immediately clear: buzzing black metal tremolos and icy atmosphere sit side by side with heavy metal gallops and anthemic, almost bard-like vocal passages. The Polish lyrics add depth and an old-world aura, especially as some of them borrow directly from national poets like Baczyński and Miciński, as well as a cover of Maanam through Olga “Kora” Sipowicz’s words. This literary grounding gives the album a layer of cultural gravity that feels naturally tied to the music’s dramatic tone.

The production strikes a balance between rawness and clarity. Instruments remain distinct, with the guitar riffs driving the songs forward and Anti-Christian’s drumming pushing them with restless energy. Klimørh’s vocal performance, grim and theatrical, ties everything together, moving from harsh growls to expressive chants. The closing track “I-II-I-II” is the shortest and most unusual cut here, leaving a strange, almost ritualistic aftertaste that works as a final punctuation mark to the album.

“Gorzkie Plony” is not an overly long listen, but it carries a sense of purpose and cohesion. The mix of blackened aggression, heavy metal roots and Polish poetic influence makes it stand out in a crowded field. Narrenwind continues to occupy their own corner of the scene, and this album confirms that their craft is still sharp and full of fire. This album, with its balance of harshness, tradition and cultural reference, will speak to fans of black metal and to listeners who appreciate when metal reaches beyond music into history and literature. It’s a release that feels bound to its place of origin, which makes it all the more compelling.

Wekeras | Do Wirów, Do Krzyków! | Pagan Records

Wékeras is a black metal band based in Sweden, formed in 2022 by Horreur, Vulgael, and JRMR, with drummer Pitoperversor joining soon after. Despite its short existence, the band has already managed to leave a strong impression in the underground scene with their first demo "Pochwała Cienia" in 2023 and live appearances across Sweden, Germany, and France. Their music draws from classic second-wave Norwegian black metal—Burzum, Emperor—as well as first-wave pioneers like Bathory and Venom. Lyrically, they focus on primitive rituals, Slavic myths, horror, and demonic imagery.

Their new album, "Do Wirów, Do Krzyków!", is a 30-minute experience built around raw, aggressive and traditional black metal. Their music is fast, cold, and unrelenting, with a very organic and primitive atmosphere that dominates all seven tracks. The opening song, "Bezdech", sets the pace with urgent drumming and piercing guitar lines. Tracks like "Urok" and "Niedola" keep the tempo high, relying on repetitive and hypnotic structures, while the vocals scream from a distance, buried just enough in the mix to add to the eerie feeling.

The production stays close to the underground roots of the genre. The guitar tone is dry and brittle, the bass is audible but distant, and the drums sound natural and unprocessed. The vocals by JRMR are harsh and desperate, following the tradition of early '90s Scandinavian black metal. The entire album feels like it was captured in one continuous moment of intense energy. There are no modern tricks, just straight, furious black metal with a distinct Slavic atmosphere. Wékeras does not stray from their core sound and instead focuses on delivering it with sincerity and intensity.

"Do Wirów, Do Krzyków!" is a strong example of traditional black metal done with discipline and passion. It feels like a complete expression, delivered with intent and confidence, sticked to its roots and executes them well.

Score: 8.0
