Wékeras is a black metal band based in Sweden, formed
in 2022 by Horreur, Vulgael,
and JRMR, with drummer Pitoperversor joining soon after. Despite its
short existence, the band has already managed to leave a strong impression in
the underground scene with their first demo "Pochwała Cienia" in 2023
and live appearances across Sweden, Germany, and France. Their music draws from
classic second-wave Norwegian black metal—Burzum,
Emperor—as well as first-wave pioneers like Bathory and Venom.
Lyrically, they focus on primitive rituals, Slavic myths, horror, and demonic
imagery.
Their new album, "Do Wirów, Do
Krzyków!", is a 30-minute experience built around raw, aggressive and
traditional black metal. Their music is fast, cold, and unrelenting, with a
very organic and primitive atmosphere that dominates all seven tracks. The
opening song, "Bezdech", sets the pace with urgent drumming and
piercing guitar lines. Tracks like "Urok" and "Niedola"
keep the tempo high, relying on repetitive and hypnotic structures, while the
vocals scream from a distance, buried just enough in the mix to add to the
eerie feeling.
The production stays close to the underground roots of the genre. The guitar tone is dry and brittle, the bass is audible but distant, and the drums sound natural and unprocessed. The vocals by JRMR are harsh and desperate, following the tradition of early '90s Scandinavian black metal. The entire album feels like it was captured in one continuous moment of intense energy. There are no modern tricks, just straight, furious black metal with a distinct Slavic atmosphere. Wékeras does not stray from their core sound and instead focuses on delivering it with sincerity and intensity.
"Do Wirów, Do Krzyków!" is a strong
example of traditional black metal done with discipline and passion. It feels
like a complete expression, delivered with intent and confidence, sticked to
its roots and executes them well.
