Golgotha |Hubris |Abstract Emotions

Release Date April 24th, 2026
Format CD/Digital
Genre Melodic Doom/Death Metal
Country Spain

Born from the sun-scorched soil of Spain, Golgotha has been haunting the underground since the early nineties. After decades of line-up shifts and a massive return with "Spreading The Wings Of Hope", these veterans have dragged themselves back into the light, or rather, the lack of it. They’ve always been about that heavy, sorrowful crawl, and their latest offering, "Hubris", is a jagged, bitter pill that tastes like real-world misery.

If you were expecting another golden era of soaring melodies, "Hubris" is going to slap that smile right off your face. This album is a heavy, suffocating descent into the rocks of reality. The transition from the massive sound of their last outing to these darker, more rugged textures is like moving from a funeral to the actual dirt of the grave. It’s an album that focuses on the wreckage of life, trading in polish for a sound that is as raw as a fresh wound.

The interplay between the musicians is where the real damage is done. You’ve got Maria J. Lladó’s vocals starting things off in a way that’s almost too vulnerable, before the rest of the band comes in to crush the air out of your lungs. The trade-off between the monstrous, cavernous growls and those clean, haunting melodies gives "Hubris" a dual personality that actually works. “Broken Toy” is a massive highlight, where the riffs crawl like a dying beast before opening into something genuinely melancholic. It’s not about being pretty; it’s about being honest.

The production from Davide Billia gives the guitars a massive, crushing edge that the band’s previous stuff sometimes lacked. “Too Late” slows things down to a agonizing pace, hitting you with that old-school death metal spirit before a solo cuts through the murk. By the time you get to the end with “Intolerance”, you’re left feeling completely hollowed out. It’s a relentless exploration of grief and pain that doesn't offer many exits, just a deep dive into the shadows of the human spirit.

This isn't an album for a sunny day at the beach. Golgotha has managed to bottle the feeling of watching your world shatter and turning that debris into a wall of sound. While it’s heavy and depressing as hell, there is a tarnished majesty to songs like “Blind” that keeps you coming back for more. It’s a strong, bleak chapter for the Spanish masters that proves they still have plenty of fire left in their cold hearts.

Score: 7.5

Unbounded Terror |Through The Dark Desperation |Abstract Emotions

Release Date January 16th, 2026
Format Digital/CD/Cassette
Genre Death Metal
Country Spain

Unbounded Terror originated in Mallorca, Spain, back in 1991, unleashed upon the metal underground by Vicente Payá. They dropped "Nest Of Affliction" in 1992, ripping through the scene as Spain's earliest death metal export. Internal fractures tore the band apart by 1993, sending Payá into the death-doom trenches with Golgotha. Decades of silence followed until 2019, when Unbounded Terror resurrected with fresh blood and dropped "Faith In Chaos". They kept the engine running with "Infernal Judgment" in 2021 and "Echoes Of Despair" in 2022. Now aligned with Abstract Emotions, the band delivers "Through The Dark Desperation", digging up the graves of their chaotic early days before their next studio onslaught.

"Through The Dark Desperation" excavates the absolute filth of the tape-trading era. You get the savage cuts from the 1993 demo, throwing down vicious riffs and guttural barking. Tracks like "Tears Of Deception" and "Unchained Hate" rip straight through the speakers with pure, unfiltered aggression. The production on these early tapes captures the basement-level destruction of extreme metal in its infancy. The guitars tear away with a buzzing distortion, backed by drumming that bashes skulls without any studio manipulation getting in the way.

The compilation also drags the 1992 demo out of the dirt. "DreamLord" and "Dead (By Deceit)" emit the furious, barbaric energy Unbounded Terror possessed before their initial collapse. Throwing the live cuts into the mix ramps up the sheer violence of the package. The 1993 gig in Valencia rips open the pit, capturing the chaotic destruction of their stage presence. The audio quality here is utterly stripped down, placing you right against the barricade of a sweaty underground club.

As a collection of ancient demos and untamed live performances, "Through The Dark Desperation" provides an unhinged assault on the eardrums. The sound fluctuates across the different sessions, bringing an authentic tape-hiss destruction that death metal maniacs crave. The execution is entirely vicious, leaving a trail of sonic wreckage. Unbounded Terror delivers pure, unadulterated death metal chaos that smashes through the speakers.

Score: 7.5

Marduk | Dark Endless | Abstract Emotions (Reissue)

Release Date: June 13th, 2025
Format: CD (Deluxe Edition/Numbered/ Gatefold 7" Vinyl Sleeve)
Genre: Black Metal
Country: Sweden

Marduk formed in Sweden in the early nineties with one clear ambition, to create extreme black metal that scorched everything in its path. In their early phase they were raw, furious and hungry for escalation. “Dark Endless” was their first strike, a debut that introduced their atmosphere of war, death and darkness. It showed a young band charging ahead with instinct and aggression. Over time they would grow into one of the most recognised names in the scene, but this album remains the spark that lit the fire.

“Dark Endless” still sounds like a band stepping into a battlefield for the first time, wild and determined, pushing forward at full speed. Marduk poured everything into these tracks. The guitars slash through the mix with cold aggression, the drums hammer without pause and the vocals roar with a harshness that perfectly matches the atmosphere. This was the moment when Marduk carved their early identity, unfiltered and direct, driven by pure instinct.

The songs move with violent motion, sometimes storming ahead, sometimes pacing in darker corners, always maintaining pressure. The album creates an environment filled with chaos, shadows and constant threat, a world where every turn brings more hostility. What makes it striking is the band’s commitment to intensity. They didn’t soften anything and they didn’t try to polish the edges. The raw sound becomes part of the attack and gives the album its character.

This new deluxe edition gives the album a fresh physical presentation with a strong emphasis on its historical value. The bonus material (6 tracks) offers a look into the early shape of the band, capturing them in their earliest live and rehearsal moments, loud, reckless and determined. For collectors, this edition (666 copies) is a solid tribute to the roots of Marduk. For listeners, “Dark Endless” remains a fierce introduction to a band stepping into the underground with fire in their hands.

Score: 8.5

Ulver | Nattens Madrigal - Aatte Hymne Til Ulven I Manden | Abstract Emotions (Reissue)

Release Date: 2025
Format: CD (Limited Edition/Numbered/Cardboard 7"/Vinyl Sleeve)
Genre: Black Metal
Country: Norway

Ulver began in the early nineties in Norway, a group of young musicians who moved from raw black metal to daring experiments later in their life as a band. In their early days they were restless, hungry and unfiltered. Their third album, “Nattens Madrigal” arrived as the most abrasive chapter of that era, a work made with teeth clenched and instincts sharpened. Garm and Haavard created the framework, with the rest of the line up shaping a storm that still echoes through underground circles. This new edition brings the album back into circulation in a striking physical format for collectors who want something special.

“Nattens Madrigal” stands in front of the listener like a wild animal in the dark, not as a polite introduction to black metal, but as a raw document of a band in full transformation. Ulver wanted something harsh and they delivered something that burns from start to finish. The guitars tear across the mix in frantic motion, the vocals scream from deep corners and the drumming follows with constant pressure, creating an atmosphere that refuses comfort. Nothing here asks for permission. It is direct, furious and relentless.

Across the eight tracks, the band builds a world made of speed, high tension and violent expression, a world with wolves, forests and frost in its bones. The sound is rough, and the performances are locked into a specific vision. The album may be chaotic on the surface, but underneath it shows a band that knew exactly what kind of storm they wanted to summon. The energy never softens. It holds the listener in a state of confrontation, with each movement pushing forward with unbroken intensity.

This reissue gives fans a chance to revisit a landmark release in a handsome physical form. Even after decades, “Nattens Madrigal” keeps its wild charm. It is the kind of album you approach with respect, because it does not offer safety. Ulver delivered something fierce and unforgettable, a document from a moment when the band was ready to run through walls to express what haunted them.
