Gus
Drax spent the
last decade tearing up stages globally as the lead six-stringer for thrash
maniacs Suicidal Angels. Before that relentless
touring cycle, the Greek guitar phenomenon carved out his name with UK
prog-metallers Biomechanical and his own heavy
outfit, Sunburst. He built an international
reputation, delivering blistering speed and face-melting technicality. Now, he
returns to his solo roots via Theogonia Records
to unleash his second full-length monster, "Theories Of
Imperfection".
To execute this instrumental prog
metal assault, Gus Drax assembled an elite death
squad of musicians. Bringing in George Kollias
to demolish the drum kit, George Charalampidis
to annihilate the bass frequencies, and Bob Katsionis
to command the keyboards elevates the entire project to absolute mastery.
Gathering such a formidable roster of world-class metal veterans guarantees
flawless precision and supreme technical dominance. Every musician fires on all
cylinders, turning insane time signatures and massive grooves into a masterclass
of progressive destruction.
The sheer velocity and emotional
aggression injected into "Sentio Ergo Sum" and "Nocturnal
Waltz" will immediately snap your neck. The monstrous riffing continues
across the wild shredding of "Sombrero Attack" and the soaring
horizons of "Ethereal Horizon". Bringing in guest heavyweights like Andy James for a massive guitar duel on "Cosmic
Shadow" adds pure firepower to the arsenal. The inclusion of John Koutselinis for sweeping orchestrations and Lefteris Pouliou dropping wild saxophone lines turns
these tracks into massive sonic explosions. Simone
Mularoni at Domination Studio (best
choice) engineered the mix and master into a crushing auditory weapon,
delivering massive low-end punch and screaming highs.
Remedy Art Design delivered a
visual nightmare of chaotic beauty for the cover art. The surreal imagery and
explosive colors perfectly mirror the insane guitar acrobatics and heavy
onslaught found inside. "Theories Of Imperfection" reigns as a
towering monument of progressive metal superiority. Gus
Drax proves he remains one of the most lethal guitarists in the metal scene
today, delivering massive riffs, chaotic speed, and unyielding metal fury.

AmongRuins started
their path back in 2012, originating as a studio project before evolving into a
full band ready to hit the stage. After making waves in the scene with their
2023 output "Land Of The Black Sun", the Greek outfit returns to the
frontlines with "Advent Of Chaos". This new full-length sees the band
pushing their sound into heavier, darker territory, utilizing the talents of Sverd on vocals and bass, Thanos
and Alex Flouros on guitars, and Scott Naylor on drums to craft a modern metal assault.
This album kicks the door down
immediately. The production work from Saku Moilanen
gives the album a massive, thick sound that rattles the speakers. AmongRuins aren't messing around with "Advent Of
Chaos"; they bring a heavy, driving energy that hits hard. The guitar work
is the driving force here, balancing those crushing, palm-muted rhythms with
the kind of soaring lead lines that get stuck in your head for days. It is
heavy, it is loud, and it sounds fantastic.
Sverddelivers a
vocal performance that sounds like he is tearing his throat out. His growls
possess a raw power that sits perfectly on top of the instrumental violence.
The inclusion of guests adds a cool dynamic to the tracklist. When Christianna steps in on "Into The Flame" or George Prokopiou joins the fray on "Open
Wounds", it adds a haunting layer to the music. These additions don't
soften the aggression; they just make the heavy parts hit even harder by
comparison.
The rhythm section locks in tight,
providing a concrete foundation for the melodies to do their work. Tracks like
"Red Divine" and "Frozen To The Core" show a band firing on
all cylinders. The keyboards and atmospheric elements from Christos Mitros hang in the background, adding a
cinematic darkness without drowning out the guitars. It’s a balance of
brutality and emotion that keeps you banging your head while actually feeling
the music.
AmongRuins has
delivered a serious album here. "Advent Of Chaos" is a beast of an
album that merges the aggression of death metal with the hooks of traditional
heavy metal. It is dark, it is heavy, and it demands to be played at maximum
volume. If you are looking for music with guts and melody, this release
delivers the goods.

Valiant Sentinel is a Greek power metal band formed in 2018 by
guitarist and composer Dimitris Skodras.
Built around epic fantasy narratives and classic heavy metal songwriting, the
project gained international attention with its self titled debut in 2022,
featuring major guest vocalists from the global metal scene. Since then, the
band has grown into a full lineup, shaping a clear musical identity rooted in
melody, speed, and dramatic storytelling.
“Neverealm” arrives as the second full length album from Valiant Sentinel and marks their first release via
Theogonia Records. The album places its focus on fantasy lore, mythical
conflicts, and imagined worlds, using classic power metal language as its
foundation. The writing stays grounded in familiar genre structures, with an
emphasis on strong hooks, memorable refrains, and steady pacing. The result is
an album that communicates its themes clearly, without drifting into excess or
confusion.
Vocally, “Neverealm” benefits from a strong central performance by Veandok, supported by notable guest appearances
that add variety without shifting the album’s core identity. Zak Stevens (Savatage) and Laura Guldemond
(Burning Witches) contribute distinctive
moments that blend smoothly into the broader narrative. The vocal approach
throughout the album remains expressive and melodic, fitting the heroic tone of
the lyrics and reinforcing the album’s storytelling focus.
The songwriting favors clarity and balance. Songs are built around
recognizable power metal patterns, combining energetic riffs with sweeping
melodies and rhythmic drive. Dimitris Skodras shapes
the album with consistent compositional direction, keeping the material
cohesive while allowing each song its own character. The rhythm section
provides a solid foundation, with Frederik Ehmke’s
drumming adding precision and energy that keeps the album moving steadily.
Overall, “Neverealm” presents Valiant
Sentinel as a band fully comfortable within the power metal tradition,
delivering an album that is focused, engaging, and easy to follow. It speaks
directly to fans of epic and melodic metal who value strong songwriting and
clear themes. As a sophomore release, it strengthens the band’s position in the
scene and sets expectations for further growth.

Emerging from the city of Kastoria, Greece, Temple Of Katharsis was formed in 2011 by Hellmaster666 (vocals/bass) and Homados (guitars). Drawing heavily from the Greek
and Scandinavian black metal traditions, the band quickly carved out a name in
the underground with their raw, occult-driven sound. Over the years, they
released a demo, an EP, and several split albums, building a reputation for
their relentless approach and fierce live performances. Sharing stages with
acts such as Rotting Christ, Septic Flesh, and Gaerea,
they solidified their status as one of Greece’s most dedicated black metal
forces.
In 2023,
their debut album “Macabre Ritual” arrived via Theogonia
Records, establishing them on the global black metal map. Temple Of Katharsis returns with their second
full-length “Worshipers Of The Ancient Necromancy”, an album that pushes their
ritualistic vision deeper into occult mysticism and death-driven darkness.
“Worshipers
Of The Ancient Necromancy” carries a feral energy from start to finish, steeped
in ritualistic imagery and necromantic themes. Across its eight tracks, the
album weaves a soundscape where the Greek black metal atmosphere meets a
harsher northern edge. The guitars build a wall of tremolo-driven fire,
alternating between relentless surges and passages that channel ancient,
mystical dread. Bass and drums lock together, propelling the music forward with
punishing force while maintaining a raw underground spirit.
Vocally, Hellmaster666 delivers an unyielding performance,
channeling incantations that echo like curses from forgotten tombs. The lyrical
focus on occult rites, blood-soaked rituals, and transcendence through death
adds weight to the sonic assault, reinforcing the ceremonial nature of the
release. Tracks such as “The Season Of The Bloodhunt” and “Celebrating The
Coronation Of Grand Evil” strike with immediate intensity, while “Tainaro”
introduces a more ritualistic cadence, drawing its strength from eerie
atmospherics as much as aggression.
The
production preserves the raw essence expected of underground black metal while
ensuring the instruments maintain their individual bite. Mixed and mastered at H12 Audio, the sound achieves a balance between
ferocity and atmosphere, making the album feel like a genuine invocation. The
artwork, handled by Wolf’s Path, completes
the vision — dark, ritualistic, and aligned with the band’s necromantic
identity.
With “Worshipers
Of The Ancient Necromancy”, Temple Of Katharsis continue
their unholy march, proving themselves a torchbearer of the modern Greek black
metal underground. This release strikes with absolute determination, carrying
the band’s necromantic message into full sonic ritual.
Lloth was formed in Athens, Greece, in
1995, initially as a project by Tristessa, the late frontwoman of Astarte,
the first all-female black metal band. Originally conceived as an outlet for
more atmospheric and melodic compositions, Lloth remained dormant after Tristessa’s
passing in 2014 until her legacy was reignited with the band’s debut album, “Athens
In Flames” (2017). Carrying her torch, Lloth returned with a renewed
sense of purpose: to channel the Hellenic spirit through melodic black metal
with a deeply emotional and mythic tone. The band’s second full-length, "Archees
Legeones," released on 9 May 2025 via Theogonia Records, marks a
defining moment in their resurrection—both as a tribute to their founder and a
new chapter forged in fire and memory.
"Archees
Legeones" is steeped in the tradition of Hellenic black metal, but it does
not lean on nostalgia or mimicry. The music unfolds in a structured, deliberate
fashion—balancing aggression with atmosphere and melody with weight. The
guitars carry an ancient quality in their tone, often sharp and rhythmic, while
interspersed with lead sections that veer into emotive, melancholic territory.
The keyboard work is deeply woven into the core of the album, not merely a
backdrop but a central force in the texture of the songs. Rather than
dominating the mix, the synths move like fog through ruins—present, ominous,
and never excessive.
The vocals
of Nicolas Maiis (Melanomorfos) are anguished and harsh, firmly rooted
in black metal but more expressive than strictly traditional. His arrangements
carry a ritualistic intensity, and the presence of Androniki Skoula on
selected tracks introduces a haunting choral layer that enhances the solemnity
and grandeur of the album without relying on theatricality. The interplay
between male and female voices in “Paianas,” “Mother,” and “Archees Legeones”
creates a sense of spiritual mourning, fitting the lyrical themes of legacy,
decline, and continuity.
Tracks like
“Angel Wings” and “Black Throne” lean into mid-tempo force and rhythmic
conviction, evoking the martial stomp of ancient processions. In contrast,
pieces like “Dark Mountain” and “Acherodas” move more fluidly, carried by
flowing tremolo riffs and subtle harmonic shifts that break through the
shadows. There’s a thematic cohesion throughout the album’s pacing that binds
all songs together in one procession—each piece positioned with purpose.
The
production is balanced and powerful. The mix by George Emmanuel avoids
overcompression, letting the acoustic and lead guitar layers breathe, and
giving prominence to the more intricate atmospheric passages. The drum work is
clear but not overwhelming, with the cymbals and kicks sitting naturally in the
mix. The overall sound feels intentional and unified, giving the album a
singular voice.
There is no
confusion in "Archees Legeones." Every element—musical, lyrical, and visual—operates in alignment. The hand-painted cover by Mars Triumph is
not only striking but also deeply appropriate to the material. It visually
communicates what the music sounds like: battle-worn, regal, and steeped in
myth.
This album
does not attempt to impress through speed, extremity, or innovation. Its force
lies in commitment—to identity, to memory, to form. For a listener attuned to
this mode of melodic black metal, it provides a complete and coherent
experience that resonates beyond technical performance.
