Fír is a one person black metal project from the
Netherlands, active for only a short time but already making noise in the
underground. After the debut “De Stilte Van God” the project now joins forces
with Amor Fati Productions for a new mini
album, “Het Sinistere Oog”. The musician behind Fír
has been moving steadily toward rawer and more personal territory,
creating music that comes straight from struggle, discipline and a stubborn
refusal to soften the edges.
This new
release arrives with an aura of transition. The band describes it as part of a
painful but necessary internal shake up, and the music lines up with that idea.
The guitar work pushes forward in a steady, restless way, the kind of approach
that keeps your head locked into the momentum. The drums match that energy with
constant motion, giving the whole thing a live spark that fits the rougher
production style. Nothing here has been trimmed for comfort, everything is
presented as captured in the studio.
Across its
length the mini album keeps the same intensity, which gives “Het Sinistere Oog”
a strong backbone even if the limited range means it does not always surprise.
The benefit is consistency, the drawback is predictability. Still, the fire
behind these tracks is clear, pushed forward by the project’s drive to burn
down its own past and clear space for the next phase.
“Het
Sinistere Oog” is a solid step from Fír,
driven by urgency and a commitment to raw expression. It offers plenty for
listeners who want black metal in its more primal and unfiltered form, and it
hints that the creator has more transformation ahead.
Score: 7.0
