Empire Of Disease comes from
Bilbao, Spain, forming initially in 2015 as Nightmare Within before
taking their current name in 2018. The lineup locked in under drummer Iban Hernando,
dropping their first EP, "Silence Is Violence", in 2019. Touring
halted during the global health crisis, so they eventually inked a deal with Wormholedeath
for their 2021 debut, "With All My Hate", kicking off heavy European
touring. By 2023, they moved to Xtreem Music for "Shadows In The Abyss",
playing fifty shows in a single year, including a massive gig at Resurrection
Fest. Now, they return with their third full-length album, "While
Everything Collapses".
"While Everything
Collapses" unleashes raw Spanish melodic death metal, heavily channeling
the furious velocity of The Black Dahlia Murder. Gorka Díez lays down
hyper-aggressive riffs and tearing leads. The drumming from Iban Hernando
bludgeons the listener with relentless blast beats and rapid double bass rolls.
Bassist Xabier
H. Zarraga locks in seamlessly with the percussion, creating an
impenetrable rhythm section. Vocalist Pintxo Wayewta growls and shrieks over the turmoil, delivering primal, unfiltered hostility.
These guys play fast, staying
fiercely loyal to the core elements of the subgenre. Tracks like
"Depravity" and "The Art Of Manipulation" speed through
tremolo picking and thrash-paced hostility. Playing this kind of extreme music
requires serious chops, giving headbangers the ferocious energy expected from
the Basque Country crew. Every member shreds, generating a punishing wall of sound.
Sure, sometimes the sheer speed
blurs the lines between individual tracks, making the middle section of the
album sound uniform. Regardless, "While Everything Collapses" gets
the blood pumping and delivers a serious beating. Empire Of Disease sticks to
their guns, offering a brutal listening experience for anyone craving fast,
heavy melodic death metal.
Score: 7.5
