Paintrail is a Swedish collaboration formed by Luca Delle Fave, known from Seventh Dimension, and Hadid Rehman. The project began quietly in 2016, when the two musicians composed a small set of material and then stepped away from it for years. After a long period of silence, the project resurfaced with those early ideas fully realized and shaped into a complete release. “Nocturnals” stands as the first public document of this partnership, emerging after nearly a decade of distance and reflection.
“Nocturnals” unfolds as a dark, inward looking work rooted in experimental rock, drawing inspiration from the shadowy edges of Opeth, Steven Wilson, and Storm Corrosion. The album favors restraint and atmosphere over obvious hooks, creating a sound that stays grounded while remaining uneasy. Its character leans toward the obscure and the introspective, offering a listening experience that asks for attention rather than passive consumption.
Across its three tracks, “Nocturnals” maintains a consistent atmosphere that rewards patience. The pacing remains measured, letting ideas develop gradually without excess. The album avoids obvious climaxes, focusing instead on sustained tension and slow transformation. This approach gives the release a reflective quality, one that lingers after the final moments fade.
“Nocturnals” presents Paintrail as a project driven by atmosphere and restraint, offering a niche release aimed at listeners drawn to darker, experimental sounds. It may not be an easy entry point, though it provides a coherent and absorbing experience for those willing to engage with its shadowed world.
