Forever Autumn |The Lamentations |Independent

Release Date: January 3rd, 2026
Format: Digital/CD
Genre: Immersive Dark Folk
Country: USA

Forever Autumn is the long running artistic vision of Autumn Ni Dubhghaill, active for almost twenty five years and rooted in a deeply personal form of dark folk. Based in the Berkshires of Massachusetts, she has built a body of work that draws from pagan imagery, acoustic doom and shadowed metal influences, while remaining centered on voice, atmosphere and storytelling. Past collaborations included figures from the doom and extreme metal underground, though her work has always remained distinctly individual.

“The Lamentations” is a solitary creation, written, performed, recorded and produced entirely by Autumn Ni Dubhghaill. The album unfolds slowly and deliberately, guided by seasonal imagery, firelight, memory and quiet reflection. Its world is shaped by natural cycles and old stories, far removed from modern noise. The songs communicate through restraint and patience, allowing space for words and melody to sink in without urgency.

Vocals stand at the heart of the album, intimate and unguarded, often carrying more narrative force than the arrangements themselves. Tracks such as “Beltaine” and “Fylgia And The Fetch” draw on ancient symbolism and inward looking emotion, while “Self Portrait In Blue, Black And Grey” and “The Salt Of Mortality” dwell on loss, aging and the passing of time. The album maintains a consistent atmosphere, one that invites quiet attention.

The production supports this approach with warmth and depth, shaped once again by Robby Baier and mastered by Jack Control. The sound remains organic and textured, avoiding excess polish. The artwork, painted by Autumn Ni Dubhghaill herself, mirrors the album’s inward gaze and reinforces its personal nature.

“The Lamentations” may ask patience from the listener, but it offers sincerity and focus in return. It stands as a reflective chapter in the Forever Autumn catalog, grounded in tradition and personal expression, and it rewards careful listening through its honesty and restraint.

Score: 7.0
