Kill Ritual started in the United States in the
late 2000s, driven by guitarist and composer Steven
D. Rice who had already cut his teeth in several metal projects. Through
the years the band shifted lineups but stayed rooted in heavy metal with a
darker and more aggressive edge. What keeps the band steady is Rice’s songwriting and his taste for dramatic
riffs, shadowy melodies, and theatrical vocals. Kill
Ritual has been releasing albums with steady determination and “In My
Head” arrives as the next chapter in this ongoing story.
“In My
Head” comes across as Kill Ritual marching
inward, into the darker corners of their imagination. The mix by Andy LaRocque gives the whole album a direct punch
while holding onto a thick atmosphere. Steven D.
Rice shapes the music with his familiar drive and Judas brings a raw, wounded voice that carries
each track with attitude and power. There is an obsession in the way the songs
unfold, like someone turning old memories in their hands and refusing to let
them settle.
The opening
title track throws the listener into a troubled state of mind where heavy riffs
push forward with aggression. That intensity continues through “Shadow On Your
Grave” and “1000 Years”, both built on tight, hammering rhythms that give the
vocals a stage to roar and bite. The band sounds fully committed to this darker
approach, closing the door behind them and letting the claustrophobia in.
The second
half continues the same emotional charge. “More Than Pain” cuts forward with
defiance, “My Love Is Hate” brings a bitter emotional tone, and “Fire Bird”
rises with an urgent energy that keeps the album’s intensity alive. The closer
“Our Elegant Demon” leans on longer lines and a haunted presence, giving the
album a proper final descent.
“In My
Head” is thrash metal with a troubled heart, music that digs into anger, loss,
and fractured thoughts without sugarcoating anything. Kill
Ritual turns these emotions into something fierce, aggressive, and
personal. The album delivers what fans expect from the band, with plenty of
darkness and enough drive to keep everything moving. For listeners who enjoy thrash
metal with strong riff work and an emotional punch, “In My Head” stands as a
solid release in the band’s catalogue.
