HyperioN formed in Bologna in 2015, created by drummer Jason Beghelli and guitarist Davide Cotti with the goal of writing traditional heavy
metal in the spirit of Metal Church, early Queensrÿche and Judas
Priest. Their debut "Dangerous Days" landed well among critics
and helped them share stages with Italian veterans like Tarchon Fist and Rain. The
second album "Into The Maelstrom" arrived in 2020 and pushed their
name far outside Italy, thanks to strong online support across North America
and Europe during the pandemic years. Once shows returned, the band kept
expanding its audience even while dealing with major lineup changes. After a
long sequence of departures and arrivals, the current formation came together
with vocalist Max Morelli and guitarist Francis Dipasquale joining Davide Cotti, Francesco Madonna and
Simone Cauli. With this refreshed crew, HyperioN put together "Cybergenesis",
their third full-length and clearly the start of a new chapter.
"Cybergenesis"
presents HyperioN leaning fully into a dark
sci-fi universe. The story follows a mission into a space-time rift that goes
wrong and wakes up the Choir, a cold, ancient hive mind from another dimension.
Humanity collapses under a mechanical army and a fallen commander rises again
as the Rhizome Rider, leading a rebellion from inside the system he once
defended. It is a classic fusion of metal and speculative fiction, drawing on
touchstones from Star Trek to Ghost In The Shell. The concept gives the band a
dramatic backdrop and they run with it. You always know you are in a world of
steel, circuits, cosmic terror and human stubbornness.
The pacing
across the eight tracks keeps the album steady. HyperioN
avoids dragging sections or unnecessary detours, sticking to straight heavy
metal with enough twists to keep the journey alive. The band clearly works as a
unified team, something impressive considering how many lineup changes hit them
in recent years. The cover artwork by Ryan T.
Hancock underlines this direction, a handmade painting that fits the
band’s desire for something tangible instead of synthetic imagery.
"Cybergenesis"
lands as a strong continuation of what HyperioN has
been building since 2015. It shows a band that refuses to slow down, even with
a long list of obstacles behind them. The album speaks the language of
traditional heavy metal with a modern sci-fi story, sturdy execution and a band
that sounds committed to pushing forward.
