Darklon enter their third chapter with "Mind
Reaper", released by No Remorse Records,
and they arrive with the confidence of a band that has already walked through
fire. Formed in Athens in 2017, they started shaking the underground with
"Rise From Death". Things accelerated with "The Redeemer",
where the band sharpened its attack and drew comparisons to classic American
power titans such as Savatage, Omen and Jag Panzer.
With Bill Chrepas stepping in on vocals and
the rest of the line up locked in, Darklon returns
with something that pushes them closer to the spirit of Vicious Rumors, Oliver Magnum and
Metal Church. "Mind Reaper" moves
with the speed and swagger of US power metal, even though it comes straight
from Greek soil.
The album
storms forward with certainty, as if the band walked into the studio knowing
exactly what they wanted. The production by Stathis
Pavlantis gives the songs enough impact to hit hard without drowning
anything, and Michael Syrigos delivers cover
art that captures the rage and theatrics inside. The band sound united, and the
chemistry between the guitars and vocals is obvious. Chrepas
has a raw, street fighting edge, something that fits Darklon like a glove, while Kras K. D. fires off attacking riffs. The rhythm
section keeps the songs charging ahead with force, pushing the whole album
forward with intent.
Even with
the familiar ingredients, the album has its own personality. It sounds proud,
fast, heroic, and never tired. There is no attempt to soften anything or to
chase a trend. The songs strike quickly and leave a strong markhe kind of
impact that tells you instantly the band are fully dialed in. It is the best US
style power metal you will hear today from a band outside the United States,
and it proves that Darklon is moving with
steady force toward the front ranks of the genre. "Mind Reaper"
offers forty minutes of pure metallic charge, delivered with passion and skill.
It is triumphant, relentless and blazing.
