Chasing Demons come from Sandefjord, Norway, and
their roots are deeply tied to the spirit of traditional heavy metal. Drawing
influence from the titans of the 80s and 90s. Judas
Priest, Iron Maiden, and Black Sabbath, the band stands firmly in the realm
of powerful, riff-based metal with a pure analog heart. The lineup brings
together vocalist Geir André Gjerstad,
guitarist and lyricist Børge Brand, rhythm
guitarist Tommy Viken, bassist and producer Vegard Liverød, and drummer Henrik H. Kaupang. Their debut album, “Echoes From
The Past,” arrives through Crime Records and
was produced by Liverød at Røffsound Recordings, with mastering by Jacob Holm-Lupo.
“Echoes From The Past” is a direct salute to
heavy metal’s golden age, wrapped in a Norwegian sense of precision and drive.
The album opens with force and keeps that fire alive through its entire
forty-minute run. The guitars dominate every corner with bright harmonies and
galloping riffs, while the rhythm section keeps everything grounded and
muscular. It’s a record built on energy and familiarity, the kind that
instantly connects with anyone raised on classic metal tapes.
The
production stays honest to its analog intentions. It’s punchy and organic, far
from over-polished modern standards. Everything sounds perfectly in sync; no
tricks, no gloss, just pure steel. “Aces Lost” and “Fighting Fire With Roses”
are prime examples of that straightforward craftsmanship, built for
headbanging, not studio perfection.
What makes
“Echoes From The Past” work is its unity and purpose. Every song has its own
spark, and the album runs with an unbroken sense of direction. There’s enough
variety to keep the listener interested, from melodic moments to full-throttle
attacks, all held together by the band’s devotion to their chosen style. It’s
not nostalgia for the sake of it, but a genuine continuation of what heavy
metal has always been about, power, melody, and electricity in motion. Chasing Demons plays heavy metal with respect,
skill, and a heart that beats in time with their influences. “Echoes From The
Past” is the kind of debut that instantly establishes a band’s identity. Loud,
proud, and made for the stage.
