Rising from the Bavarian Forest, Maahes has steadily carved a place for themselves in the modern black metal underground. Formed in 2015, the trio started out exploring Greek mythology before turning to the grand imagery of Egypt as their core concept. Their first full-length, “Reincarnation” (2020), built the foundation: sharp riffs, dark atmosphere, and a fascination with myth and ritual. Five years later, their second album “Nechacha” arrives through Massacre Records, expanding their sound with an orchestral scope that mirrors their growing ambition.

“Nechacha” is an album of grandeur and fury, where black metal intensity collides with sweeping symphonic arrangements. The Egyptian concept is not a gimmick here, it permeates the whole work: the chanting choruses, the cinematic layers, the ominous storytelling. Tracks like “Magic Slave” and “Lord Of The Underworld” strike with raw aggression, while tracks such as “Morbid Love” and “The Crown And The Sceptre” stretch into elaborate compositions, balancing fast assaults with ritualistic passages. The bonus material, including “Patron Saint Of Pharaohs” with guest vocals from Lele Habel, broadens the ritualistic theme even further.

The production brings every element into sharp focus, recorded and mixed at Woodshed Studios, a place known for shaping albums with massive sound. The cover art by Marcus Röll captures the mystical and imperial imagery the band channels through the music. Together, these details reinforce “Nechacha” as more than just a collection of songs—it feels like a temple of sound dedicated to forgotten gods.

Maahes has always been atmospheric and visionary, and here they bring it to life with a cinematic scale. “Nechacha” is black metal driven by blast beats and screams, but wrapped in orchestral drama and mythic storytelling. It is heavier, darker, and more ambitious than their debut, and it places the band firmly in the tradition of European symphonic black metal while keeping their identity intact.
