Colosalist is a relatively new name, though
their members bring together experience from the Czech and Norwegian
underground. Formed as a cross-border project, the group brings together
voices, strings, and heavy riffs under one roof. Their debut album "Two
Suns" arrives through Hoggorm Music and
captures a distinctive blend of pagan imagery and doom heaviness.
The album was recorded in Finland with producer Aksu Hanttu, whose résumé stretches across both metal and rock, and mastered by Svante Forsbäck, known for his modern and powerful mastering approach. This combination ensures the sound is full and well-balanced, without losing the organic edge that doom fans expect.
Across its
nine tracks, "Two Suns" builds a world rooted in tradition and opened
wide to sonic landscapes. The viola parts from Zuzana
Klementová Zamazalová give the album a folkish and melancholic layer,
while the guitar work of Petter Stanek and Tomáš Paulus brings forth heaviness and atmosphere.
Vocals range from growled passages to solemn, melodic lines, adding contrast
and drama. The rhythm section of Filip Chudý and
Jan Jaglarz keeps everything grounded,
giving the music depth and flow.
Lyrically and atmospherically, the album revolves around images of nature, myth, and duality. Titles like "Visdomer," "Soul Of Birds," and "Witnesses From Shadows" suggest a journey through mystical landscapes, while "Die Inside Me," offers a more direct and emotionally charged entry point. The balance of darker, crushing passages with melodic and contemplative sections keeps the album dynamic.
Listeners into
My Dying Bride, Swallow
The Sun, Primordial or Saturnus will find a lot to connect with here.
"Two Suns" takes cues from the classic European doom tradition, while
weaving in Nordic folk atmospheres and a strong sense of narrative. The debut
plants firm roots, giving the impression of a band ready to grow further from
here.
