Impending Rot is the brainchild of Adrián, also known for his later project Stenched, and has been active since 2022. Emerging
from the underground in Monterrey, Mexico, the band quickly began spreading
their sound with a demo, two EPs, and a split release, all in their first year.
Their approach has always been steeped in old-school death metal, drenched in a
raw sewer-dwelling atmosphere. What sets Impending
Rot apart is how quickly they established an identity, with releases
that sound filthy yet purposeful. “Anatomical Discorporated Abberation,”
originally released digitally in early 2023, became a cult favorite through
ultra-limited runs. Now, thanks to Blood Harvest
Records, the EP gets a proper worldwide vinyl edition.
Running for
21 minutes, “Anatomical Discorporated Abberation” wastes no time in dropping
the listener into a pit of weighty riffs, cavernous growls, and pounding drums.
The sound recalls a time when death metal was unrefined and direct, evoking
visions of damp rehearsal rooms and decaying underground venues. Yet there’s a
certain energy coursing through the EP that keeps it from collapsing under its
own heaviness. Each track is twisting and stomping forward with foul momentum.
The guitar tone is thick and suffocating, grinding through with a sound that feels both crushing and strangely catchy. Drums hammer away with an intensity that keeps everything rolling, not flashy, just effective in driving the riffs deeper into the dirt. The vocals are guttural and primal, buried within the mix just enough to make them feel like another instrument rather than a leading voice. This cohesion adds to the suffocating atmosphere of the EP, giving the impression that the songs ooze out of the same festering wound.
What makes
“Anatomical Discorporated Abberation” memorable is how much it achieves in such
a short span. It doesn’t meander or lose focus; instead, it barrels forward,
offering different shades of heaviness without dragging its feet. There’s
enough variation across the tracks to keep the ear hooked, while the overall
tone remains consistent, dirty, and true to its core. This balance gives the EP
replay value, rewarding listeners who enjoy sinking deeper into its rotten
layers.
For fans of
death metal’s filthiest corners, this release is both a celebration and a
reminder of why the style refuses to die. “Anatomical Discorporated Abberation”
feels like it belongs to the late ’80s and early ’90s underground, yet it
thrives in 2025 thanks to its conviction and raw spirit. Blood Harvest Records’ worldwide vinyl pressing
ensures it will reach the ears—and shelves—of those who crave death metal with
slime still dripping off it.
