Mývalyĭr formed out
of the isolation of the global lockdowns. Isolated musicians traded riffs and
concepts until the lineup solidified into a real war machine in 2023. Fast
forward to now, and they drop "The Past Tales" on the underground.
This album fuses classic melodic death metal hostility with deep folk and
orchestral layers. The addition of violin, cello, and nyckelharpa adds massive
depth to the traditional guitars and drums, giving the whole thing an ancient,
warlike atmosphere.
The lyrics tackle the concept of
eternal conflict, exploring the battles we fight inside our own heads and out
in the real world. Musically, Mývalyĭr matches
that heavy subject matter with absolute metallic fury. The classical
instruments run parallel to the heavy distortion. The band delivers raw
aggression mixed with severe folk sorrow. The drum barrage destroys everything
in its path, and the keys weave a dark, tragic atmosphere over the chaos.
Mývalyĭr built a
crushing debut here. The audio production rules. Janne
Lunnas handled the mix, giving the guitars and drums extreme power and
volume. Felipe Machado Franco provided the
killer artwork to wrap the entire package. "The Past Tales" is a
heavy, tragic, and savage ride. It delivers total melodic death metal
devastation.
