Misotheist operates
completely in the shadows. Nobody actually knows who handles the instruments or
the vocals in this anonymous Norwegian entity. They function devoid of typical
rockstar egos, completely ignoring the usual demands for public validation. These
musicians just churn out extreme music under the Terratur
Possessions banner, acting exclusively through the sonic devastation
they leave behind.
With "De Pinte", the band
unleashes forty-three minutes of pure black metal aggression wrapped in heavy melancholy.
The musicians deliver blistering riffs, furious drumming, and harsh, tearing
vocals. The songwriting stays entirely focused on creating an atmosphere of
complete hostility. The guitar work constantly alternates between fast,
freezing tremolo picking and slower, punishing chords. "Blinded And
Revealed" steps up with massive fury, immediately attacking the listener
with blast beats and sinister melodies.
This album absolutely delivers the
dark, violent atmosphere fans demand from underground black metal. Sometimes
the drawn-out sections in the final track test your patience, dragging on just
a fraction too long. Regardless, the entire tracklist provides a harsh,
punishing listen. Misotheist continues to
execute their particular brand of darkness with supreme skill. "De
Pinte" stands as a thoroughly respectable assault for any dedicated black
metal maniac.
Score: 7.8
