Shadowmass |Wastelands |Floga Records

Release Date: January 19th, 2026
Format: Digital/LP/CD/Cassette
Genre: Blackened Heavy/Thrash Metal
Country: Greece

Shadowmass is a Greek heavy thrash outfit that have been grinding away underground with patience and stubbornness. Over time they have sharpened their identity, pulling from classic heavy metal roots while dragging everything through harsher ground shaped by blackened and thrash influences. Their sound has always leaned dark and confrontational, more concerned with pressure and atmosphere than polish. “Wastelands” arrives through Floga Records as their clearest statement so far and marks a turning point in how focused and aggressive the band has become.

“Wastelands” sounds like a band done with half measures. The heavy metal spine is obvious, but it is constantly scarred by thrash urgency and a blackened edge that keeps things hostile. Riffs come in solid blocks, meant to crush rather than impress, and the pacing stays disciplined without drifting into comfort. There is a coldness running through the album, just stripped and severe, which keeps everything locked into the same bleak space.

Lyrically the album circles around decay, erosion, and collapse, not as abstract ideas but as daily realities. Systems rot, thoughts fracture, inner structures fail, and nothing gets repaired. This sense of entropy is grounded and human, focused on exhaustion and loss of direction instead of grand statements. The words serve the music well, reinforcing the album’s bleak worldview without slipping into overstatement or metaphor overload.

The production helps this approach. The sound is firm and aggressive, giving the songs muscle without sanding off their rough edges. Vocals bite and command attention, sitting high enough to lead but never overpowering the rest. The overall mix favors impact and cohesion, making the album hit hard as a unified whole instead of a collection of separate moments.

“Wastelands” also reads as an album built with live impact in mind. The material begs for volume, sweat, and packed rooms, where its severity can fully translate. Shadowmass sound sharper, angrier, and more focused than before, delivering an album that stays consistent and punishing without slipping into filler. This is not a flawless release, but it is a strong one, driven by clear intent and an unrelenting attitude. If you're into Mercyful Fate, Candlemass, Metal Church, Nevermore, Coroner, Slayer, Aura Noir, or Bathory, crank this one up and let it rip.
