Orchid Throne |Buried In Black |Self-Release

Release Date: January 9th, 2026
Format: Digital
Genre: Melodic Doom Metal
Country: United States

Orchid Throne is a melodic doom metal one-man band created by Nicholas Bonsanto (Lör, Empress, Helianthus, Barren) based out of Baltimore, Maryland. Orchid Throne is set to release its debut full-length album entitled "Buried In Black." The album features a spellbinding variety of dark, heavy, and emotional material that beckons you to fall into the endless black. Drawing influence from a range of sounds such as melodic death metal, black metal, progressive rock, and folk, Orchid Throne is music from the heart for fellow souls who need it most.

“Buried In Black” comes from a very personal place and it shows. The album circles around anxiety, depression, fear of death, and the quiet need to find meaning, without turning into self pity or melodrama. The atmosphere stays heavy and inward looking, with melodies that stick around longer than expected. This is doom metal built on patience and emotional pressure, not on empty dramatics or shiny surfaces.

What stands out most is the sense of isolation running through the songs. The writing leans on repetition in a way that mirrors the mental states it explores, thoughts looping and refusing to let go. The pacing is slow and deliberate, letting themes sink in gradually. Some sections stretch longer than they need to, and the album could have hit harder with tighter editing, though the core ideas remain strong throughout.

The production stays raw and honest, serving the songs without smoothing out their rough edges. There is a clear devotion to melody, drawing from the gloomier side of doom while borrowing subtle shades from melodic death and darker progressive sounds. Fans of Swallow The Sun, Anathema, Woods Of Ypres, Novembers Doom, and Draconian will find familiar emotional ground here.

“Buried In Black” is a sincere debut that shows a songwriter finding his voice in the open, scars and all. There are moments that linger long after the album ends, even if not every idea fully sticks the landing. As a first statement, it leaves a solid mark and sets expectations for deeper and sharper work ahead.

Score: 7.5
