Konfession is a black metal
project from Austria, active since 2008. After early demos, an EP, and a
compilation, the project reached its first full length through Into Endless Chaos Records. Operating in the shadows, Konfession has kept a low profile, focusing on
atmosphere, restraint, and a stripped back approach rooted in traditional black
metal values. “Im Baumdunkel Des Äthers” arrives as the second full length and
follows the same path with steady dedication.
“Im Baumdunkel
Des Äthers” presents six tracks shaped by raw black metal and echoes of ancient
heavy rock. The sound favors a rough, vintage character, allowing the material
to unfold without polish or studio shine. Mastering by Chris
Fielding keeps the recording grounded and organic, emphasizing texture
over clarity. The album communicates through repetition, slow tension shifts,
and steady pacing, creating a thick atmospheric field that surrounds the
listener rather than attacking outright.
Lyrically and
aesthetically, the album stays aligned with nature mysticism and archaic
symbolism. Titles and imagery point toward forests, spirits, and thresholds,
reinforcing the album’s inward looking character. There is a clear separation
from modern black metal trends, keeping the focus on atmosphere and
authenticity rather than extremity or speed.
“Im Baumdunkel
Des Äthers” sits comfortably as a solid second statement for Konfession. It deepens their established sound without
unnecessary expansion and remains consistent throughout its runtime. Listeners
drawn to restrained, atmospheric black metal will find a coherent and immersive
work here, marked by discipline and a clear artistic vision.
Score: 7.0
