Infernal Diatribe crawled out
of the shadows in 2011 as a conduit for occult black metal. After two years of
silence, the band returned with an ambitious album, "Mahabhuta
Pralaya". This release explores ancient Hindu cosmology and the Great
Elemental Annihilation. It looks into the destruction of the five fundamental
elements: Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Ether. Having shared stages with beasts
like "Impiety" and "Manzer", the group has built a
reputation for raw, visceral soundscapes.
"Mahabhuta Pralaya" is a total assault on
the senses. Infernal Diatribe brings a raw,
unfiltered darkness that sounds like it was ripped straight from the 90s. The
guitars in "Tales Of Lionhead" and "Vengeance Of Garuda"
are cold and piercing. The drumming is a constant barrage. The production
avoids the plastic sound of modern metal. It stays filthy. This is the sound of
elements dissolving into nothingness.
The atmosphere is oppressive and thick. Songs like
"Raktakshi Sadhana" and "Mrityu Mantra" show a band that
values the old-school aesthetic of Mayhem and Gorgoroth. There is no room for melody here. There is
only the void. The transitions between the blistering speeds and the slower,
more haunting sections work well. It keeps the listener trapped in the cycle of
creation and death.
Infernal Diatribe has put out a strong contender for
a top Indian black metal release. "Mahabhuta Pralaya" is a dark,
esoteric journey that respects the roots of the genre. It is a solid slab of
occult violence for anyone who hates the modern, over-produced state of metal.
It is a nasty, rewarding listen for those who worship at the altar of the
abyss.
Score: 7.5
