Formed in 1989 in Finspång, Sweden, Edge Of Sanity became a powerhouse in the death metal scene. Fronted by Dan Swanö, they ignored the rules and made music that was as ugly as it was smart. By the time they hit their second record, they were already moving away from the standard sounds of their peers.

Back in 1992, Edge Of Sanity decided to wreck the standard death metal blueprint. Most Swedish bands were copying each other, so these guys crafted a monster. This record is a total beast. Dan Swanö and his crew ignored the safe path. They took the raw filth of the underground and mixed it with songwriting that most modern acts can only dream of.

“Unorthodox” still sounds like a threat. Even after all these years and styles that came and went, this album has teeth. The riffs are twisted and stubborn, the songwriting refuses easy hooks, and the whole thing radiates a mean, almost arrogant spirit. Hearing "Enigma" or "In The Veins/Darker Than Black" again, it reminds us why this band ruled. The riffs are sick and the vocals sound like they come from utter hell. It is mean, ugly, and fast. "Everlasting" hits like a hammer. There is zero filler here, just pure aggression and strange ideas that keep you hooked.

This 2025 version is the real deal. Dan Swanö went into the vault to remix and remaster this stuff. The result is total destruction. You get the original energy with a punch that actually causes pain. The second disc with the remix is a massive addition for anyone wanting more power. It is loud and nasty. This is how death metal should sound.

If you do not own "Unorthodox", the original of course and this new edition, you are failing. This reissue is the ultimate version of a classic album. It is a total rager that ends with "When All Is Said", leaving your ears ringing. Edge Of Sanity proves they were miles ahead of the pack. Three bonus tracks in the remaster version and the whole album in the remixed, plus lyrics and in a depth interview with the band. Enjoy the feast by getting this and the rest back catalog or stop pretending you like real Swedish death metal freak.
