Backengrillen come from
Umeå and carry long histories in hardcore punk, extreme metal, noise and free
jazz. Members have been involved in projects such as Refused,
INVSN, Fire Orchestra, The International Noise Conspiracy and several radical
jazz formations. This new ensemble gathers that background into a
confrontational platform rooted in antifascist politics and raw expression,
dedicated to the memory of Lars Lystedt.
“Backengrillen” is a debut album
built on urgency and instinct. The material was written, played live and
captured within the same week, and that compressed timeline defines the sound.
Ideas are pushed hard, allowed to erode, and then shattered into rough fragments.
Riffs circle until their shape collapses, rhythms grind forward without
comfort, and the overall impact stays abrasive and restless. The album speaks
in blunt gestures, with little concern for polish or refinement.
Across its runtime, the album keeps
pressing forward with minimal relief. Themes return in warped forms, often
stretched until they collapse under their own pressure. This approach gives the
album a raw honesty, though it can also blur individual moments into a single
mass of sound. Listeners familiar with extreme hybrids of metal, noise and jazz
will recognize the language, even when it turns inward and abrasive.
“Backengrillen” stands as a harsh
introduction to a new project that values impulse over refinement. It documents
a band in its earliest violent spark, capturing ideas before they are shaped or
restrained. As a debut, it communicates attitude and intent clearly, even when
its rough nature limits long term depth.
