Arallu is the
definition of the Jerusalem underground. These demons have been around since
the late nineties and "Dmoon - From The Ancient World" marks their
ninth full-length output. They have toured all over Europe and shared the stage
with titans like Mayhem and Satyricon. This new release is a total re-recording of
their 2005 album. Butchered "Genie King"
and his new crew decided to resurrect these old war hymns with a fresh perspective
and a new line-up.
"Dmoon
- From The Ancient World" brings back the Mesopotamian spirits with a
massive wall of sound. The recording features Arabic instruments that separate
them from the standard black metal crowd. The mix by Dory
Bar Or keeps the vibe vicious. Every string and drum beat sounds like it
was pulled out of the desert sand. It is a re-working that actually makes sense
for the current era.
The addition
of Doctor Joe The Metal Cellist provides a
strange, mournful atmosphere. Butchered "Genie
King" handles the vocals and bass with a hateful energy. Gal Pixel and Haim Death Nakav
provide the heavy lifting on the guitars. Nir Death
Nakav keeps the percussion tribal and relentless. This is a collection
of tracks for people who want their metal to sound like a regional conflict. This
is a strong return for a classic set of songs. It has enough filth to satisfy
any fan of the niche. The Middle Eastern elements are integrated well. It is a
solid slab of Mesopotamian metal.
Score: 7.8
