Dragon Throne was formed in Finland in 2019 by Antti Liimatainen and Santtu Korhonen, driven by a shared fascination with fantasy themes and classic heavy metal. The project began as a songwriting-focused duo, inspired by bands like Blind Guardian, Helloween and Judas Priest. Over time, the lineup expanded and shifted, with Santtu eventually taking vocal duties and the band evolving into a full unit. Despite changes during the making of “Tale Of The Two”, Dragon Throne continued as a core trio, later welcoming a new bassist in 2025. Their work centers on epic storytelling, traditional metal roots and a hands-on approach to sound.
“Tale Of The Two: Dusk
& Dawn” is presented as a double album, built around a single narrative
dealing with loss, family ties, inner struggle and revenge. The story mixes
personal themes with fantasy imagery, drawing inspiration from East Asian culture
instead of the Middle Eastern colors of the band’s earlier work. The concept is
clear and consistent across both parts, giving the album a unified identity
even when the music shifts direction.
The vocal performance
plays a central role, guiding the listener through the story with a dramatic
and expressive delivery. Guitars remain firmly rooted in traditional heavy
metal, while the rhythmic foundation keeps the songs grounded and steady.
Across both “Dusk” and “Dawn”, the band focuses on atmosphere and storytelling
more than immediacy, giving the album a measured pace and a serious tone.
“Tale Of The Two: Dusk
& Dawn” stands as a solid and thoughtful release within modern power metal.
Its ambition is clear, and while it demands patience from the listener, it
rewards attention with depth and cohesion. Dragon
Throne shows a clear artistic vision and a willingness to explore wider
musical landscapes without losing their core identity.
