Valontuoja, meaning “Bringer Of Light”, is the
personal creation of Jal’zoroth from
Helsinki. Formed in 2024, this one-man project dives straight into harsh
northern black metal, using cold melodies and raw aggression to paint images of
frozen forests, loneliness and inner collapse. The music leans on traditional
Finnish darkness blended with melodic ideas that cut through the icy haze like
sudden sparks in the night.
The
melodies rise and fall like cold wind over empty land, sometimes fierce,
sometimes mournful. Valontuoja prefers long,
freezing themes that linger in your ears and build a heavy atmosphere around
you. The production stays rough, more like a frostbitten coat over everything
as it suits the music, and everything hits with intention.
As a second
release, “Tulesta Syntynyt” shows a clear identity. It stands firm inside
Finnish black metal tradition, using strong melodies and harsh vocals to create
its atmosphere. Some moments burn brighter than others, and the long running
time demands patience, although fans of frostbitten black metal will walk
through it with no trouble. It is a solid and honest black metal release. It
may not crush mountains, but it builds an impressive frozen monument in its own
corner of the underground. Anyone who loves Finnish darkness, harsh melodic
riffs and solitary black metal visions will find this album a worthy journey.
