Infernal Presence formed in Germany in 2023, a two
member project built on a taste for raw black metal mixed with the harsher side
of death metal. Even with such a short lifespan, they quickly gained attention
in the underground, mostly through their early demos and their sharp approach
to songwriting. The duo treats this debut as a serious statement of identity, a
direct step into the darker corners of extreme metal where frost covered
tremolo riffs meet heavy, punishing rhythms.
“Fiery
Paths” arrives with the kind of determination you usually hear from older
bands. Infernal Presence moves with
confidence in their sound, not as newcomers who are still searching for
direction. The album keeps a steady balance between icy black metal riffs
inspired by groups like Dissection or early Mayhem and heavier thrash soaked attacks that give
the music a grounded force. These shifts keep the listener involved from start
to finish, with enough variety to keep the energy alive across all six tracks.
The
atmosphere has a suffocating quality similar to early Secrets
Of The Moon or Negative Plane’s
earliest days. There is a damp, sinister aura floating over the whole album,
helped by a production that stays gritty without falling apart. Nothing sounds
washed out and the harsher edges are still easy to follow. It is the sort of
mix that fits the band’s personality, raw enough to match the aggression, clear
enough to let every riff strike properly.
“Fiery
Paths” is an impressive introduction to the world of Infernal
Presence. The band write with intent, they understand the strengths of
their influences, and they know how to channel them into something that stands
strong on its own. Anyone who enjoys the colder side of black metal with a
noticeable death metal stain will find plenty to appreciate here. Darkness Shall Rise Productions picked a good
moment to release this one, since the album signals a band that could easily
grow into one of the interesting new names in the scene.
Score: 8.0
