Formed in 1993 in Namur, Belgium, Enthroned have
long stood as one of the most unrelenting names in European black metal. From
the fiery chaos of their debut “Prophecies Of Pagan Fire” to the ritual
darkness of “Cold Black Suns”, they’ve carved a career built on fury,
discipline, and esoteric vision. Through death, upheaval, and transformation,
the band’s founder Nornagest has kept Enthroned alive as a conduit for something cold,
ancient, and merciless.
There’s an intensity
here that borders on ritual possession. The sound is suffocating, yet strangely
calculated. Songs like “Raviasamin” and “Ashen Advocacy” shift from high-speed
violence to oppressive, slower passages that pulse with tension. The title
track “Ashspawn” captures the album’s spirit perfectly, unyielding, venomous,
and uncomfortably human in its aggression. The production, handled by Menthor and mixed by Stefano
Santi, keeps the atmosphere raw without descending into chaos. Every
element serves the violence.
