Crystal Tears has been active for more than two
decades, always moving in their own corner of modern speed and power metal. The
band was formed in Thessaloniki and has grown through several line up changes,
touring cycles and a steady rise in international attention. Their identity has
been built on direct songwriting, fast tempo work and a sharp sense for melody.
Over time they attracted collaborators from many scenes, which helped their
name circulate outside Greece. With “Athanato”, their fifth album, they return with
a line up strengthened by guests from different backgrounds and a production
team that pushes their sound forward.
“Athanato”
aims straight for intensity. Crystal Tears load
the album with quick riffing, high energy vocals and a clear interest in songs
that move fast, sometimes with an aggressive edge and sometimes with a brighter
melodic lift. Matt Hyde’s mix gives the band
a wide sonic presence, loud enough to support the quick changes between heavier
moments and more accessible parts. The guitar work keeps the album vivid. You
get firm rhythm sections that drive the songs and catchy leads that stay in
your head long after the first listen.
Their cover
of “You Could Be Mine” gives a familiar track a tougher metallic edge. It works
as a nod to influences and closes the album with a confident punch. The whole
release sits comfortably within the modern European power metal spectrum, but Crystal Tears maintains their own character,
something that fans of their earlier work will recognize instantly.
“Athanato”
stands as a strong addition to their catalog. It shows a band that knows what
it wants to deliver, an album built on speed, melody and a darker tone that
suits them. Anyone following the Greek metal scene will appreciate how Crystal Tears continues to evolve while staying
true to their path.
