Formed in Curitiba in 2019, Creatures stand
among the few Brazilian bands that keep traditional heavy metal alive in a
country dominated by the extremes of thrash and death. After some early
singles, their 2021 debut introduced a melodic yet dark approach that nodded
toward the golden years of the genre. Now signed to High
Roller Records, the band returns with “Creatures II,” recorded with a
full line-up and guided by guitarist and main songwriter Mateus Cantaleano.
“Creatures II” is a sharp continuation of their debut’s spirit, only
deeper and darker. The guitars are fiery and melodic, combining the bite of Judas Priest with the smooth hooks of Dokken. The riffs hit hard, balanced by catchy
vocal lines from Marc Brito, whose tone
bridges that classic 80s theatricality with a hint of menace. The rhythm
section is tight and driving, pushing the songs forward without losing that
warm, old-school punch.
The album moves with confidence between heavy mid-tempo crushers and
more melodic anthems, while the choruses stick quickly and stay memorable.
“Beware The Creatures” sums up what this band does best. Powerful riffs, rich
harmonies, and a chorus made to echo in a packed venue. “Queen Of Death” and
“Night Of The Ritual” lean into darker territory, bringing atmosphere and a
slightly sinister edge, while tracks such as “Dreams” open a more emotional
side without softening the energy.
The production by Arthur Migotto and Cantaleano gives everything a crisp, live feel,
keeping the focus on the guitars and vocals. Nothing sounds overdone or sterile,
the album simply sounds alive, energetic, and honest. There’s a clear passion
for traditional heavy metal here, but Creatures manage
to sound fresh rather than nostalgic. “Creatures II” is the sound of a band coming into its own, stepping
confidently into the classic heavy metal lineage while writing songs that stand
strong on their own merit. It’s a record that feels built for fans who crave
melody, hooks, and genuine metal spirit, without overcomplication or pretense.
