Nero Kane has been wandering through barren
musical landscapes since his 2018 debut “Love In A Dying World”, carving a
place in the world of dark folk and experimental songwriting. Over the years,
with Samantha Stella by his side, his work
has carried a strong ritualistic and visionary quality, enriched by imagery
that touches on mysticism, cinema, and spiritual traditions. This fourth album,
“For The Love, The Death And The Poetry”, continues that path with a collection
of songs that function less like entertainment and more like liturgies.
The album
does not fully escape its own weight. At times the slow, meditative nature
risks drifting too far into the background, and the pacing makes the journey
feel longer than it really is. Yet this is not music built for immediacy. It
asks the listener to submit, to sink into its textures and repetitions, and in
return it offers moments of haunting beauty.
“For The
Love, The Death And The Poetry” is not the most accessible release in Kane’s catalog, nor the most striking, but it is
consistent in tone and vision. It confirms his place in the current landscape
of dark folk liturgy, a niche where few musicians manage to remain authentic.
For those willing to embrace its ritualistic pace, this is a rewarding and
immersive listen, one that lingers like the echo of a hymn in a deserted
church.
