Binah emerged during the second wave of “Old School
Death Metal” in the early 2010s, cultivating a reputation for focused,
meticulous releases. With members connected to acts like Code, Hexvessel,
Thine, My Dying
Bride, Esoteric, Pantheist, Axis Of Perdition,
and Bal Sagoth, the band channels decades of
experience into music that is intense, atmospheric, and carefully composed.
Avoiding frequent live performances, Binah dedicates
itself to creating albums that resonate as complete works. “Ónkos,” their third
release, arrives seven years after “Phobiate,” featuring long-form compositions
that explore illness, loss, and the residual struggles they provoke.
Vocals are
harsh and menacing, blending with the instrumentation to form a consistent,
brooding atmosphere. The guitars navigate between crushing riffs and intricate
passages that add dimension in the overall flow. Drums maintain an unwavering,
precise pace, shaping the progression of each act, while subtle melodic touches
occasionally emerge to punctuate the heavier sections.
The album
rewards patient listening, revealing new details on repeated plays, and
emphasizes a continuity that is compelling from start to finish. “Ónkos” offers
a consistently engaging experience.
Score: 7.0
