Spanish death metal unit Undead have spent the past decade cementing their
presence in the underground. Founded by guitarist/vocalist V. Repulse and guitarist A.
Von Hell, the band quickly grew into a full line-up with Pit Ov Despair on bass and Siebe Hermans on drums. Since their 2015 debut “Blood Enemy,”
they have remained loyal to a relentless brand of death metal that merges
old-school ferocity with a modern surge of power. Their catalogue includes the
EP “Redemption” (2016), the full-length “Existential Horror” (2019), and the
crushing “Putrefactio” (2023), all of which helped shape their reputation as a
force on stage and in the studio. With tours alongside Marduk,
Valkyrja, and Impalement,
Undead has proven their commitment keeping
death metal alive with sheer power and determination..
“This Side Of The Grave” marks Undead’s return with four compact strikes that total just over ten minutes. Short in length but heavy in impact, the EP wastes no time in showing its teeth. The title track, “This Side Of The Grave,” serves as the spearhead—an assault of blasting percussion and twisted riffing that carries the dark atmosphere Undead is known for. A visual counterpart arrives through the freshly released video, which amplifies the raw violence of the music with imagery straight out of the grave.
“Samsara”
pushes forward with furious momentum, a storm that feels almost ritualistic in
its repetition and speed. In contrast, “I Am The Curse” attacks with a quick
burst of rage, its under-two-minute structure adding to its impact. The closing
track, “Blood Enemy 2025,” reimagines the band’s debut release, now performed
with the sharpened ferocity of a group that has spent years honing its craft.
Mixed and
mastered by Dan Swanö, the sound hits with
precision and depth, letting every instrument serving its destructive role. “This
Side Of The Grave” is direct, violent, and uncompromising—a strike of death
metal that confirms Undead’s place in the
scene and shows that their fire still burns with intensity.
