Myr is a new
name rising from the Nordic underground, but its roots run deep. Formed by Svartan and TZommer
(who are Polish and live in Norway), two experienced musicians from the metal
scene, the duo brings together years of experience with a shared vision: black
metal shaped by the cold and isolation of the North. Their debut full-length,
"Helvegen," is a 44-minute journey into the heart of Scandinavian
black metal, drawing inspiration from legends while forging their own identity.
Across the album’s nine tracks, Myr balances aggression and atmosphere. At times, the music slows down into more atmospheric territory, giving a sense of space without drifting too far from its harsh core. Rather than shifting direction, the guitars stick to a focused path, creating a hypnotic, driving foundation across the album. There’s a strong feeling of unity throughout "Helvegen." The atmosphere across the album is cold and relentless, and Myr manages to keep the energy flowing by shifting between mid-paced assaults, slower atmospheric passages, and more intense sections.
Overall, "Helvegen" is a strong debut from a band that knows exactly what it wants to create. Myr offers a sound that feels rooted in black metal’s Northern tradition but is played with focus and dedication. It speaks through its riffs, its tension, and its restraint. It’s a confident and focused entry into the black metal world.
