Gallower | Vengeance & Wrath | Dying Victims Productions

Formed in 2015 in Tychy, Poland, Gallower has steadily carved their place in the European underground as purveyors of “Witching Metal”: a venomous hybrid of early black metal and first-wave thrash, soaked in occult horror and medieval lore. The trio—Mighty Tzar (vocals/bass), Vic Nocturnitier (guitars/backing vocals), and T.C. Speedfire (drums/backing vocals/synths)—have sharpened their weapons over a series of demos, a full-length, and an EP, forging a sound both primitive and theatrical.

Their second full-length, “Vengeance & Wrath”, continues down this path with unwavering resolve. The album is steeped in sinister fantasy and a hammering attack, conjuring visions of burning villages and black-robed inquisitors. Gallower’s approach remains loyal to the core of early black/thrash: militant drumming, raw speed, and no-frills production that retains just enough clarity to keep the chaos legible.

From the opening charge of “Aftermath/Protector's Militia”, the tone is set—warlike, fast, and drenched in a cold atmosphere that draws on the legacy of Bathory, Destruction, and Venom without sounding tethered to any one influence. The vocals are barked and bitter, but never indecipherable. Guitar work remains frenetic, with riffs stacked one atop the next in a way that rarely lets the pace drop, yet avoids turning into a blur. Tracks like “Bubonic Breath” and “Relentless Retaliation” are particularly venomous, each carrying a distinct identity despite the unified assault.

The band’s world-building is as focused as the music. Titles like ”Prophecy Of The Seven” and “March Of The Carmine Cloaks” reinforce the fantasy setting that has become a key feature of the Gallower mythos. If anything, the use of synths adds just a trace of that eerie medieval fog over their sepulchral battlefield. Even in its slower moments, the group refuses to soften their approach; everything on this album burns with the same torch-lit fury.

There’s no sense of reinvention here, nor is there any desire for it. “Vengeance & Wrath” thrives by staying rooted in an established tradition, executed with total commitment. The spirit is raw, battle-hardened, and conjured for those who find their strength in the shadows of the past. A fierce, relentless surge from a band who know their identity and guard it like a cursed relic.

Score: 7.5/10
