Bardo Thodol take
their name from the Tibetan “Book Of The Dead” and were formed in 2022 by
vocalist Ginevra De Giusti, guitarist Peter Svensson and drummer Scott Naylor.
Coming from Italy, Sweden and the UK, the trio shape a horror heavy metal style
that blends doom rooted heaviness with dark melodic themes. After the sold out
“Demon Unleashed” demo cassette, the band prepared their first full length,
“Sumerian Tragedy”.
“Sumerian Tragedy” presents Bardo Thodol as a
band deeply focused on atmosphere and heavy songcraft. The album draws from
occult themes, ancient myths and dark spiritual imagery, giving the material a
shadowed and serious character. The writing stays grounded in classic heavy
metal forms, shaped by doom pacing and a strong horror influence. The result
sounds deliberate and cohesive across its runtime.
“Sumerian Tragedy”
stands as a solid debut full length that reflects careful planning and a strong
shared vision. It speaks to listeners who value traditional heavy metal shaped
by doom and horror elements, delivered in a straightforward and sincere way.
The album holds its ground through atmosphere and songwriting rather than
spectacle, making it a reliable and engaging listen within its style.
Score: 7.0
